Getting Ripped
Alright the disclaimer here is that I didn't workout for two days so I didn't have any sort of "pump" going on, but I wanted to see if I had lost any size since I have lost some weight. I'm happy that most of the size is still there and I'm getting striations in my back. I really wish I could focus a little more on my diet, but I guess that will just have to come with time and discipline. However, I did crank out 3 miles at 7:30/min speed yesterday, so I'm making progress somewhere!

Race results
Alright, so the official race results were posted in the paper this morning. Wait for it.....Carrie and Rich came in 369 and 370 out of 378. Carrie- Rich said he did the manly thing and let you win;) I came in at 172. I think we all could have placed much higher, but heck we had fun!
And, by the way, I devoured a cheeseburger and fries at Martin's Grill this evening. This followed up the cherry pie I had at Mrs. Rowe's for lunch. I haven't eaten like this in 10 months, but boy was it tasty!

Special Olympics 10k
This post goes out to Carrie! Thanks so, so much for inviting me to do this race with your family. I had a wonderful time and I'm already looking forward to next year.
For the last year I've wanted to sign up for multiple races, but I was either injured or too intimidated to follow through. Carrie sent out an email asking for support for the Special Olympics 10k early this week, and I decided enough was enough, sign me up! I'm so thankful that I did. I was able to cheer on Carrie's brother, Dirk, and students from my school as they raised money for a cause their local Special Olympic teams.
Rich had no intention of running, but as soon as we got there I could tell he was contemplating it, so with a little pressure we got him a set of numbers and he was ready to go. Carrie warned me that she may run the first two miles and then circle back like she has done in the past, but not this year:) She and Rich ran quite a bit and finished the race in 1:20. I am expecting big things from these two next year after their showing today when they weren't even prepared to be running! Way to go!
After the first mile, I decided to kick it up a notch and see what I could do. I now know that next time I should start out a bit faster and start out closer to the front, but without ever racing or without the intent of really going all out I didn't know any better. One positive is that I improved my time with each mile. The slowest first mile was 9:10 and the rest were in the 8:00 range. I ended up finishing in 51 minutes, which isn't too shabby for my first race and 6.2 miles. I think I am even up for doing a 10 miler in the future:)
I had a good little chunk of time after I finished to play with Carrie and Will's cutie pie, Dilyn and her cousin, Harrison. They were chowing down while we were running. And, they didn't mind eating some more snacks, thanks to Carrie's mom, when we all finished;) I miss having a little toddler to take pictures of! I forgot how cute they are when they teeter back and forth while walking, grin from ear to ear, and fight over toys:)

Dirk coming in to the finish line. |
So cute, but such a horrible background of coolers! |
Love this b/c I didn't even know I took a picture as I grabbed Dilyn before she took a nose dive. |
I could just eat her up! Just like she has been eating those cookies;) |
Off to the races... |
Future gingy....Harrison |
So proud of the Henley group and Dirk! |
We spent last Sunday thinking about all of those who lost their lives 10 years ago on September 11th, but we also celebrated Rich's birthday and the fact that we are proud Americans. We did the American thing and grilled burgers and dogs, ate, laughed, and watched the kids run around like wild animals. Hailey had too much fun with Addie and Tyler! The screaming, running, and giggles were non-stop. It was great to catch up with Rachel and Jeff as well. They had not been to our house since Rachel was pregnant with Tyler, over 4 years ago...where does the time go?
Like our 9-11 inspired shirts we got at the gym? |
Yep, the only picture of Rich celebrating his bday. Not even one of the cake. I was too busy wrangling kids. |
At least Hailey grabbed the camera and took a pic of Addie, Tyler, and Rachel. |

Stats = Good news
Alright, first of all this post is for my records and my own personal motivation, so feel free to stop reading now:)
In order to keep myself motivated in the gym I've been getting my measurements done every three months or so. I finally got a copy of the results last week so that I can measure myself at home a little more frequently and also just keep a record of my progress. So, here they are...
February 10, 2011
As far as cardio goes, I got in a 6 mile run on Saturday in 49 minutes, which is pretty darn good considering I've only been back running for 3 weeks. I'm switching up my lifting routine a bit and getting sore again, which is always a good thing. So, here's to losing a little more fat and then maintaining it!
